Press Coverage:

A GLASGOW bar has come up with a novel way to take a slice out of the pizza delivery market.

The Republic Bier Halle West End in Great Western Road will also deliver any of its selection of more than 70 foreign and British beers to customers ordering food.

Republic at Home will be the first pizza and beer delivery service in Glasgow, and will also offer pastas and salads, wines and soft drinks.

Republic owner Colin Barr said the idea came when a friend asked him for a favour.

He said: "A couple of my pals live in the West End and one was stuck at home and wanted a pizza for him and his kids then he asked if I could bring him a couple of beers as well."

The delivery idea grew from there and is due to be launched next week.

Menus will be dropped through letterboxes in the delivery area, which stretches from throughout the West End out to Anniesland.

And callers can expect the same high standards they are used to in Glasgow's Republic Bier Halles.

Mr Barr said: "At first we worried how we would get ice cold beer and piping hot pizza right to customers' doors, but I've tried it and the service was perfect.

"We want to get this right and are really excited about it."

The businessman also revealed how his son had used the scheme to help with his business studies course.

He added: "My son Josh has been instrumental in putting together a business plan and projections for his studies so he has been focussing on the figures.

"If this works well then we could expand it to the city centre, but we want to make sure it runs well first.

"We want to keep the unique standard that the Bier Halle has."

Republic at Home launches on Monday, May 14, and is available from 5pm until 11pm seven nights a week.
